    Hi Ben, and welcome. 🙂

I'm also a lifelong fan of Star Trek, having caught most of the last few seasons of TNG on TV as a kid when it aired.

The DS9/NEM-era uniforms are some of my favorites too. They're great uniforms but DS9 is my all-time favorite show, so I have a strong positive emotional association with them.

That's fantastic how you've branched out from costuming/cosplay sewing into tailored suits (etc.). I love hearing stories like yours. 🙂

And great job with your uniforms – especially that VOY jumpsuit and undershirt!

    That is so cool!

And great job with all the fitting – especially on your personal uniform. 🙂

The original gray fabric color varied considerably over the many years this uniform was in use, so I wouldn't sweat it unless you favor a particular color/production year. Dark gray, bluish-gray, purple-ish gray, neutral gray, light/pale gray … they were all used, so even when striving for “accurate” colors it's mostly a matter of personal preference.

And excellent job with the bunny, too. Did you name it Kukalaka? 😉

    Welcome, Luke! 🙂

And WOW, you have certainly been a prolific sewer! Good for you (and your family members)!

I installed mostly-hidden pockets onto my early VOY jumpsuits too, but beneath the side waistbands. They do make the costume more convenient for outings.

My ENT jumpsuit is my favorite uniform to wear out-and-about, too. It is surprisingly comfortable and it's nice to have pockets for a change, haha.

That's really neat about your custom clothes – especially the dress shirt you mentioned (with the contrasting trim and mitered corners). I've made myself several dress shirts, but mostly pretty standard stuff – no fancy accents like you described.

I'm glad you enjoyed the little preview of the sewing courses. Believe me, there's a LOT more where that came from! 🙂

And I too am greatly looking forward to finally tackling the TWOK-era uniforms, once I get these courses done. I'll probably order a custom chest badge from Xscapes too. Scott's really look fantastic.

    Welcome, Thomas! 🙂

As I mentioned in your “Trophy Room” thread, it's amazing what you've accomplished starting from scratch with my older tutorials. You should be very proud of your uniforms!

The trousers are a breeze after the jacket, jumpsuit, and vest. The VOY jumpsuit is also easier than the DS9/NEM style you've already made.

    Keep up the great work!

Tom- you look great in that jumpsuit! 🙂

Nice job on the others as well – it's amazing you learned so much about sewing and accomplished what you have starting from scratch with my older tutorials. (I'm looking forward to updating those!)

And yes, DS9/NEM division colors are on my list of dye mixes to determine. I have swatches of all three colors, plus the gray elastique for the jacket/jumpsuit/vest yokes.

    Welcome, Tony!

Props and accessories are outside my field of expertise, so I have a lot of respect for those who know their stuff and do that kind of work.

The uniforms you mentioned are great choices, and while they all have their pros and cons, I do agree that they're easier to maneuver (and rest) in than armor!

Nothing wrong with being a lurker, but I do hope you'll feel free to chime in anytime you have something to say. 🙂

I've also been wanting to do the Tenth Doctor's amazing overcoat for a while now, and I was recently bitten by the bug to do some of the Eleventh Doctor's earlier tweed jackets.

I plan to dive into Classic Who costumes as well, probably starting with the Second (Troughton) and Third (Pertwee) Doctors.

Next up is the Eleventh Doctor's “Snowmen” costume, which is a personal favorite of mine.

I'll probably be discontinuing them in a few months, maybe early next year (2022). I'm going to wait as long as possible, to minimize the window when they'll be temporarily unavailable.

And as someone who's recently shed about 40 pounds, myself, I commend you for your weight and health goal! 🙂
