Grain lines?

  • Grain lines?

I have been reading that cutting pattern pieces on the straight grain of the fabric is important. I am attempting the Voyager jacket and grain lines aren't marked on the patterns. How can I determine where the strait grain should be? Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately I didn't start marking grain lines on my patterns until 2017 – another reason I'm looking forward to updating all my older (DS9, VOY, and ENT) patterns.

On that pattern, the text labels on the pattern pieces are nearly always horizontal, i.e. perpendicular to the straight grain.

Also, don't stress about it being perfect. It's fine if it's a tiny bit “off” in either direction since it's they're just solid colors (as opposed to stripes or plaids).
